Like neighboring McDowell and Mitchell counties, Yancey County has no April stocking events. All waters stock in March and May — with the Cane River DH section also receiving a fall October event. The typical April spring rush doesn't apply here — plan your trip around March or May.
At 0.6 miles, the Cane River DH section is one of the shortest Delayed Harvest designations in the District 8 program. In a section this short, fish concentrate quickly after stocking — work every pool and run systematically. Blackberry Ridge Road provides upper access; the downstream boundary of Cane River County Park is the lower limit.

The Cane River HS section (Bee Branch/SR 1110 to Bowlens Creek) is a separate piece of water from the DH section (Blackberry Ridge Road to Cane River County Park). All legal tackle and creel limits apply here — DH catch-and-release rules do not. Confirm which section you are on before fishing.
